The Surprising Secret to Get Your Team Behind Your Vision

It's tough having a big vision.  Especially one that no one else sees. But do you want to know a secret?


No one's supposed to see it the way you do.  That's why it's your vision!


Your job is to help other people see it and feel connected to it…in a way that feels meaningful for them. We get people behind our vision by making it their vision too.  This doesn't happen through force or manipulation, it happens through connection. You have to be able to connect with people in a meaningful way. You have to make your business case for why they should follow you. That means you have to understand what matters to them.


And if you try to do that without connection, then you're just telling them what to do. 


There is strength in connection. When leaders adopt a connected mindset they see people differently.

When it comes right down to it…there is very little difference between any of us. We all want the same things out of life; peace, joy, love, and purpose. How we achieve those things will look different for each of us but the core desires are the same.


When you are leading a big vision, and you need people to get behind that vision, you have to be able to speak to core desires.  Your people will tell you what they need and then your job is to invite them to join your vision.. not tell them.


Show them how excited you are.

Share why this is important to you.

Tell them why you need them.


When you do this well you will learn quickly who's on board and who's not. And for the people who don't want to follow your vision, that's okay. It's just not for them.


Now you can focus your energy on the people who are with you.  The others will either change their mind or find something more meaningful for themselves. That's a win-win for everyone!
